#BOYSWITHBELIEF Campaign Launched
At Bishop Challoner, we believe every boy is made in the image and likeness of God.
(Gen. 1:27). Within our school community, we are dedicated to educating the whole person - mind, body and spirit. We do this with a focus on the development of intellect, character, personhood, and relationships. #boyswithbelief, launched this term, is an initiative set up to challenge the boys of Bishop Challoner to think about why it is important that they believe in themselves and to show them that they can achieve great things if they have belief. The reality of growing up as a young man in East London, means our boys are faced with multiple social issues that they
must overcome if they are to lead a happy, safe and successful life.
These issues are vast, convoluted and include:
• The complexities around the notion of what it means to be a man, which can lead to
negative stereotypes that young men sometimes feel they need to live up to, causing
them to make decisions based on how they think others want them to act.
• The rise of social media, which has had a significant impact on the lives of our young
people and perpetuates these stereotypes. As a result, peer pressure can have a
hugely detrimental impact on our young people. Social media exposes our boys to
inappropriate role models and develops misconceptions around the idea of what it
means to be successful.
• Our young men contend with the issues that are caused by growing up in an area with high levels of deprivation. This can lead to a lack of opportunities, disadvantage and discrimination, especially if from a black or ethnic minority background. The challenges above make growing up as a young man in society today more complicated than it has ever been and can have a negative impact on the success of our boys, both in school and out, in all areas of their lives.
The #boyswithbelief initiative aims to challenge these barriers and concerned with supporting our boys to overcome them. It will teach our young men to reflect on what is important, to have purpose, courage, integrity and to aspire to be the best that they can be. It will be a way to recognise and to celebrate their successes and achievements.
#boyswithbelief is more than just a slogan. It’s a way of doing things, a mindset we want all Bishop Challoner boys to have. Boys who believe in themselves are
capable of anything.
