PE Faculty Sport News Indoor Athletics Year 7 and 8 Both Y7 and Y8 boys entered the Sports Hall Athletics event brimming with confidence after the schools previous success in the tournament, but also off the back of some excellent training sessions. For the Y7 squad it was their first official competition, but the energy and professionalism they displayed suggested they had been doing it for years. Stand out performers were Jonathan Some coming 1st in standing long jump, Luc Vital taking top spot in standing triple jump and Kosi Fontilio coming first in 2-lap sprint. The year 8 boys were outstanding on the track, and solid in the field events. Two outstanding Bow school runners kept them in the competition and meant that it all came down to the final relay. Despite a dodgy third baton exchange, Daniel Areola clawed back second place to ensure we finished first overall. Well done to all boys involved. The Girls Year 7 and 8 teams also performed exceptionally well and both the Girls and Boys teams emerged as overall Tower Hamlets champions as the tables below illustrate. Girls Football Year 7 The U12 Girls football team beat Charter School 4-0 taking us through to the semi-final of the U12 Wyn Bailey London Cup. Was a great team performance! Ruby Doe scored a hatrick and Tayyiba Imaani scored the fourth. The defence did very well to keep a clean sheet as well as Nowell Codjoe making some excellent saves in goal. Great performance by all players but player of the match going to Nowell Codjoe for her excellent goal keeping. Boys Football Year 10 The year 10 football played away to Dover School for boys in the English schools quarter final, in a very even contest Bishop were lacking the creative edge, a characteristic they normally possess in abundance. Two mistakes in the second half condemned the team to a 2-0 defeat. The team are still involved in the Inner London cup. Boys Basketball Year 9 The U14 bounced back from the disappointing defeat to Platanos School last week. There was a renewed focus on defence and the team were able to follow instructions resulting in Bishop winning the third game of the season 102-19. The points were shared evenly by all the players however the MVP was awarded to Cyran Abdul Salam for his improved fitness and tactical awareness. Hopefully this form will continue in to next week’s home against Norwood School. Year 7 B Team The Year 7 ‘B’ team found themselves in round 5 of the English Schools Cup against Cardinal Newman School. As a result of an extremely muddy and wet surface, our usual style of pass and move football was out the window. So physicality and determination was on the menu. Against the run of play the home team took the lead. Early in the first half we equalised with a calm finish from Nathan Mampasi. Shortly after they came back at us and took advantage of some clumsy goalkeeping which led to a penalty. 2-1 Cardinal Newman. After a few substitutions we had them pressed back and with 2 minutes to go TJ Taiwo glided into the box and scored with his first touch. It might have been his little toe. 2-2. Full time. Extra time there was no turning back and it was like the Alamo. Kosi Fontilio, Joseph Daly, Nathan Mampasi and a little help from an own goal left us 6-2 up at the final whistle. The quarter finals await us.
